United Latino Muslims of America (ULMA)

United Latino Muslims of America (ULMA) was founded on Tuesday, February 21, 2006 in United States of America (USA). Latinos are the fastest growing population and Islam is the fastest growing religion in the United States. As members of two populations, Latino Muslims have unique challenges in trying to express their identities as Muslims and Latinos. We seek to foster brotherhood/sisterhood, respect, and understanding between all quarters of the Latino Muslim, Latino, and Muslim communities. There are people in the society, including Muslims and Latinos, that are unaware of the rich historical, cultural, and spiritual connection between Latinos and Muslims. At this juncture of history, it is extremely important for Latinos and Muslims of all cultural and religious backgrounds to join together and celebrate our shared identity. Our goal is to come together with Latinos of all persuasions and affiliations to learn more about Islam and Latino culture. Through Spanish and English literature, and outreach we hope to reach domestic and international communities interested in building bridges of hope and understanding.
